Privacy notice

This notice explains what the campaign does with personal information: what we collect, why we are allowed to, who else sees it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do. It covers this website, our advertising and the ways we keep in touch with supporters.

Who is responsible

The campaign, which operates as London Unleashed, is run by Alex Challoner of 2 Fitzwarren Gardens, London N19 3TP, who is the data controller for everything described here. The campaign supports Alex's political activity in London, including the Conservative Party's selection process and any campaign that follows it. You can also reach us at [email protected]. The website and the supporter database are supplied by NationBuilder, which holds the information and acts on our instructions under contract. Where the campaign works alongside the Conservative Party, the Party is responsible in its own right for whatever it holds.

What we collect

What you give us. Your name, email address and postcode, and your address or phone number if you choose to add them. We also keep a record of what you have done with the campaign: a form you signed, a survey you answered, an event you registered for, an offer to help, a message you sent, a donation you made. For donations we hold the amount, the date and the details we need to check that the donation is permissible; card details are handled by our payment provider and we do not see them in full.

What you tell us about your views. If you pick a priority, answer a survey, or tell us you are a party member or supporter, we record that answer. Information of that kind reveals something about your political opinions, so data protection law treats it as a special category. We record it only with your explicit consent, which you give when you answer. That consent covers using your answer to decide what to send and show you, including advertising on platforms such as Meta, and sharing it with the Conservative Party. You can withdraw it whenever you like.

Information from other sources. We may receive information from the Conservative Party about its own members and supporters, and use it, together with what you have told us, to work out who to contact and what to talk to them about. We may also use information you have made public yourself, for example on social media.

Technical information. Our website records the ordinary details of a visit, such as the pages requested, the type of device, your IP address and an approximate location. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and the Meta Pixel to measure and improve our advertising. Both use cookies, which we set only if you agree. We also record whether you open our emails and click the links in them.

Why we use it, and what allows us to

Your consent, for email and text updates, for recording your views, and for analytics and advertising cookies. You give it by ticking a box or accepting on the cookie banner, and you can take it back whenever you like.

Our legitimate interests in running a campaign: answering messages, organising volunteers and events, keeping our records straight, understanding which arguments supporters care about, deciding what to say and to whom, measuring what works, and showing our advertising to supporters and to people with similar interests. We weigh those interests against your own.

Legal duties, for donations. The law requires us to check that a donation is permissible and to report donations above the statutory threshold.

We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have a legal effect or a similarly significant one.

Who else sees it

NationBuilder, as the supplier of our website and database. Other suppliers who work for us, such as those that deliver our email or process payments, and only for that purpose. Meta, which receives information from the Meta Pixel when you visit our site, and to which we may upload contact details in scrambled form so that our advertising reaches our supporters and people like them; Meta's own privacy policy explains what it does with information it holds. Google, which processes analytics data for us. The Conservative Party, including its national, regional and local bodies, for coordinated campaigning, keeping records up to date, and selection and election activity. This includes what you have told us about your views, where you have consented to that. The Electoral Commission, where reporting rules require it, and public authorities where the law requires it.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not hand it to unrelated organisations for their own marketing.

Where it is held

NationBuilder, Meta and Google are United States companies, so information may be transferred outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens it is covered by the protections the law requires for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or the UK's data bridge.

How long we keep it

We keep supporter records for as long as the campaign continues, including after the selection process, so that we can keep in touch with you and keep campaigning on the issues you have told us matter. We review the records we hold at least once a year and delete anything we no longer need. Donation records are kept for the period electoral law sets. If you unsubscribe, we keep only the minimum needed to make sure we do not write to you again. Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account and then deleted. If the campaign ends, we will delete the records or tell you before passing them to anyone else.

Keeping it safe

Access is limited to the people who need it to do a job for the campaign, and they are told how to handle it. Our suppliers are chosen on the basis that they protect information properly, and they act only on our instructions.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can object to what we are doing with it, or ask us to restrict it, and you can ask for a copy in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and using it is enough on its own. You can also ask us to leave you out of our advertising audiences. Some of these rights are qualified: for example, we cannot delete records that electoral law requires us to keep.

Write to the address above, use the email address, or use the contact form, and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Cookies

This site sets the cookies NationBuilder needs to make the forms work and to keep you signed in if you have an account. With your consent it also sets Google Analytics cookies, which tell us how visitors use the site, and the Meta Pixel, which tells us whether our advertising is working and lets us show relevant advertising on Meta's platforms. You choose which to allow on the banner when you first visit, and you can change your choice at any time using the link in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though parts of the site may then stop working.

Changes to this notice

We update this notice when the campaign changes what it does with information, and the date below tells you when it last changed.
